DIY Memo Board

Hello again PBD readers. It's Shara from Little Gray Table stopping by! Today I wanted to share with you an easy and quick way to make a memo board for your home. This memo board would be perfect in a kitchen or entry way or anywhere you need a place to hang those daily reminders.

Last summer, I bought this large frame at a garage sale for $2. It's been sitting in my garage waiting for me to figure out what to use it for. I recently rearranged my craft room/office and decided I needed a memo board to keep track of inspirations and ideas that come to me. Since I can be a bit disorganized, I think this memo board will be perfect.



For this project, all you need is a large-ish wooden frame, a staple gun with staples and some jute twine.


Start by tying off one end of the jute and stapling it to the wooden frame.


Then keeping the jute taut, pull the string where you would like to go next and staple it into place. I chose to do a random placement but you could do any design you wish. Keep going until you feel you have enough places to hang your memos. Tie the last end in a knot before cutting the jute.


There you go! A quick easy and fun way to display memos or even pictures. I hung mine next to my craft table so I could easily access it when I'm crafting. Now I just need to find some cute clothespins! Remember to visit me over at Little Gray Table. I hope I've inspired some of you today.

Dos and Don'ts for Wedding Guests!


Hello again to all you fabulous PBD readers out there! It's me again- Jackie Fo from Jackie Fogartie Events. I hope everything is going smashingly in your world.  I know you're getting excited for summertime. Personally, I love the cookouts, crisp white wine, farmers markets, late night dinners outside and all the fun summer has to offer. Along with warm weather, the summer also brings wedding season! As someone who is knee deep in the crazy, wild world of wedding planning, I thought I'd share my Do's and Don'ts tips for wedding guests so you can be on your best behavior at your upcoming summer nuptials!

First up - The Dos! 

1. Cash as a wedding gift - you bet your bottom dollar this is a major do!


People get funny about giving cash as a present; I've even heard the term tacky, and I wholeheartedly disagree! Growing up in an Italian-American family, giving cash as a gift for special events is commonplace. I'm pretty sure I had cash to my name as soon as I came out of the womb, and that's no joke. Baptisms, graduations, weddings - you name it, you got cash. So I don't think it's weird, and neither should you! Put your cash in a pretty card, write a personal note, and call it a day. If you're stuck on the amount, just think about what you would spend on a gift for the couple. If you'd spend around $50, give them $50, and so on and so forth. I promise you, they'll be pumped to get some cold hard cash on their wedding night, and you won't be stuck with whatever boring item is left on their registry. Another perk to giving cash - you're not awkwardly dragging a ginormous gift to the wedding, and the bride/groom don't have to deal with it either.

2. RSVP PLEASE!



This one seems pretty obvious, but I've decided that the human race as a whole is just not good at responding to invitations. This is quite the problem for a wedding because the wedding hosts are paying for your food and need to give a headcount to the caterer/bartender/venue/pretty much everyone involved. So send your (NORMALLY PRESTAMPED BTW!) RSVP card back and don't let it get lost under your pile of junk mail. If you feel so inclined, write a funny note or smiley face on the RSVP card too - just for kicks. Then you've doubly succeeded- you've responded, and you've made the wedding host laugh. Kudos to you.

3. For reals people - be on time for the ceremony.


Maybe you're just one of those "late" people...you're always running 15 minutes behind schedule. That's fine, we all have our flaws. But try to lock it up for a wedding ceremony, okay? Every wedding there's one awkward moment where a latecomer has to come down the aisle post bridal procession - not cool latecomer, not cool. Not to mention that you are destroying the wedding planners (AHEM, ME) timeline, which leads to unneeded stress. Stress leads to wrinkles...do you want to give the wedding planner wrinkles? I didn't think so. So if you're going to be at all punctual this summer, do it for a wedding, okay?

Now for the Don'ts - because really, aren't these the most fun to talk about? 


1. Don't eat dessert before the cake is cut. Even if there's a dessert table that's calling your name. And you think no one is watching you. And don't you even think about touching that cake.


Dessert tables have been all the rage at weddings over the past few years. I know the desserts look beautiful and scrumptious. And maybe you're hungry waiting for that buffet line to be opened up, but come on people - don't touch the desserts before they cut the cake! The dessert table is meant to be a part of the decor, it's a beautiful display that was set up perfectly for your visual pleasure. So once someone picks up a macaron here, and a mini cupcake there, the whole design is off. So don't be a Rudey McRuderson...wait your turn and LET THEM EAT CAKE to quote Ms. Antoinette! Eat dessert after dinner like your mama told you!

2. NO WHITE DRESSES. UNLESS YOU'RE THE BRIDE! NO EXCEPTIONS!

It saddens me that i have to include this on the list of Don'ts, but you'd be surprised. I know there are cute white dresses out there. There's eyelet, lace, strapless, maxi, you name it, they make it in white. But for the love of all things wedding, WHO WEARS A WHITE DRESS TO A WEDDING?! No. No. No. White dresses are for brides only, no exceptions. In fact, I'd stay away from ivory, off-white, cream and anything in the white family. Capish?


3. Don't be THAT girl. You know what I'm talking about.


Another way to ruin a brides big day is to be THAT person. You know who I'm talking about. They're singing "SHOUT" just a little too loud, and dancing creepily with some stranger on the dance floor. There's no need for this. Please note - you are talking to Mrs. Good Time here, okay. I am always up for a drink, or three, but I know my limit. For goodness sake be somewhat responsible and don't make a scene. It's just not cool and there WILL be pictures and videos to prove it. And that lasts forever...scary. Extra precaution - there is absolutely no need to get on stage and hog the microphone...it's not karaoke night, it's someones wedding. And no fist fights over the bouquet. You'll all find your Prince Charming when the time is right.

With this knowledge, I now release you into the fabulous world of weddings! I know you will be on time, have the proper amount of fun and not be THAT guest :) Have a blast!

Keeping up with the Joneses

I have been reading a lot of blog posts lately, about balance and time management... blogging too much or not spending enough time with ones family.

Trying to keep up with this party, or that party... are my pics cute enough to post, will I be original enough. Topping this party or that.

I must admit, I myself had a brief moment of party insanity. Which is exactly what it was... party insanity. Why insane... because ultimately why should I care? Why should you?
W.H.Y!

When you host a party for your child, you do it for many reasons. The first should be, because your child will simply have the most wonderful day. Two, you are celebrating another amazing year, three... life is just too short AND four because you are doing something you love.

Charlotte told me she wanted a crocodile party! I do not care how many crocodile parties there are, ultimately it's what Charlotte asked for.

And you know what, her party will be nothing short of ah-mazing, why... because I love parties.

I host an amazing event because it brings me so much joy, I love it. I love popping popcorn at 1 am with my husband, and I love thinking of new signature cocktails, I love displaying party decor and putting together party favors at 2 am.

Why, because we lose track of time and life passes us by and for that ONE DAY you are celebrating life's most amazing gift, God's gift to you... your child.

So party on people, and don't have a second thought about who featured what party and how big or small it was. When you see your child's face, the joy in his or her eyes nothing else matters.

Do what you love, celebrate life and cherish the memories you are creating.

DIY Craft Table


Hey everyone...It's Amy from Coffee, Crafts & Cupcakes!  I just recently remodeled my craft room/office and thought I would share with you my super easy DIY craft table.

You can find lots of creative ideas on Pinterest so a lot of my inspiration came from there as well as Ana White.  I showed this project to my husband and asked if he could make it for me.  We changed it up a bit and decided to use the 9x9 cube bookshelves from Target or Fred Meyers and then create a table top for it.  I waited for the shelves to go on sale and bought two in white.  I like to stand and work at my table as well as sit so these might be a bit high for some but they were the perfect height for my needs- they are 36 inches high.

Once the shelves were assembled my hubby went to Home Depot and had a piece of wood cut for the top.  It was pretty pricey around $65.00 but we didn't want a flimsy piece.  I decided at a table top size of 36 inches by 46 inches.  He sanded it and then we painted it white.  Instead of screwing/ nailing the table top to the shelves we used heavy duty Velcro to stick the table top to the shelves.  This way when we have company come over I can remove the table top and push everything to side for a guest room.

For a protective top I thought about glass but we didn't want to spend a fortune on a custom cut piece...trying to create this table without going broke!  We went to Lowe's and decided on a product similar to plexiglass.  There are draw backs to this- it will show every scratch and any sort of blemish or damage but it is easier to work on than the actual wood top plus I didn't want the paint all scratched up.  We had it cut to the proper size and the table is all finished up.

You can't see it in the pictures but I also purchased a bar stool that was on sale at Fred Meyers for $59.99.  I think Frey Meyers is a Pacific Northwest store just in case you've never heard of it and thought I was speaking gibberish.  :)

I think the total for the whole craft table project probably came to around $200.00 and the stool was $59.99.

A Quick Change

Hello again Party Box Design readers! It's Shara from Little Gray Table stopping by today. I want to talk about a simple thing you can do to change the look of something. I love re-purposing things instead of getting rid of them especially if they have some sentimental value but might no longer go with your decor.

When I turned 10, my Grammy and Grandpa bought me this framed art work of dolls in an attic. It hung in my room until I went off to college. I always loved looking at it and I always thought it would be cool to have a fun place like an attic to have adventures in.


I've held onto this picture because it reminds me of my Grammy and my Grandpa (who passed away). I always knew if I had a daughter, I'd pass it onto her. Well, I recently redid my daughter's room (you can see pictures here and here) and figured it was a good time to find a place for this picture. However, the dated 1987 old oak frame was not doing anything for me and I wanted to change that.

I started by removing the glass and the picture from the frame. Then using a sanding sponge, I gave the frame a quick sanding and wiped it down with a damp cloth. I used a coat of spray primer first to try to camouflage the strong wood grains in the frame. Miss M wanted me to paint the frame pink so I used what I had on hand (Berry Pink by Rustoleum). I think it made a world of difference. It updated something I already had and now will look cute hanging up in Miss M's room.

Emails, Dreams, Reality, SEO... L.I.F.E

Lately, I have been getting a lot of emails asking for advice... how to do this, that, what do you use to do this, etc. Not a fan of "what printers do you use, or what paper"... sure, let me share my 10000000 million hrs of research and trial and error in one little email- no.
Advice on following your dreams, is super flattering.

I decided to write this blog post, because of "said emails".

Over the last 2.6 yrs, there has been A LOT of trial and error, blood.sweat.and.tears... happy and sad, stemming from frustration, lack of sleep, and overall joy. A little(a lot) Mom guilt too!

Following your dream sounds a lot sweeter and easier then it actually is. For one, you don't just wake up and succeed, and  secondly... when you stumble and fall along the way, you best be picking yourself riiight back up, brushing off that dirt and starting over.

Mistakes always lead to discovery, an unhappy customer may open your eyes to something new and learning from both is priceless!

Also, just because you have a dream doesn't mean it will be financially beneficial. Yes, I think our prices are insanely awesome... but I also want to put food on my table, place my daughter in a great school and have her enjoy ballet, gymnastics and t-ball! Some nice dinners out with the Hubs, also pretty sweet. So, as a small biz owner you M.U.S.T. have a financial plan and make the numbers work for both you and your customers. If you can't sell a product with a profit, then you need to re-work your plan.

Customer Service... K.E.Y! Reviews, highly important... free press... outstanding.

SEO, get a book or 5... read, a lot! If you want your website to populate, you better become familiar with this, or hire someone. Spending money on having your blog buttons put all over the place is fine as back links are great, but those blog buttons aren't going to make your website populate!

One last note, don't give up... believe in yourself and re-work that dream if need be.

Most importantly, WE ALL start somewhere.  You don't wake up with a book deal, or 10,000 facebook fans or instant customers. It also doesn't matter how you get where you get, as long as you succeed along the way. Success is a journey, and so very rewarding. Set small goals, and celebrate along the way.
