The best foundation AND how to apply it!
I have used more foundations then I care to admit, and quite a few have ended up in the trash. After many many failed attempts I have finally discovered the mecca of foundations. A foundation that doesn't feel cakey, or too thick, one that makes my skin glow and look healthy and clean.

Literally, the best foundation I have ever used!
(It even smells fresh)

After lot's of trial and error I've got my foundation game down. Which is ubbber important, because I have two kids and during the week my beauty routine has to be fast!

KEY TIP: Add a drop of face oil to the back of your hand and mix it into your foundation! THAT'S IT! Seriously, ya'll... 1 drop of facial oil + the amount of foundation you use (mixed together) and apply to your face with a beauty sponge.

This beauty sponge blender changed my makeup routine. It's affordable + amazing. I ended up buying the smaller sizes as well and getting some friends hooked! P.S. Totally an amazon affiliate link, my first one ever so if you decide to buy... purchasing from this link would ROCK! I promise, it's amazing and I'm obsessed.
Now, I have used a bunch of facial oils as well. I kinda love them. I have given face oils as gifts and I have quite a few stocked up in my make up drawer. Honestly, there are really a ton of great options. It truly depends on what you are looking for. My cheeks have a bit of redness to them, so I have been targeting that with a balancing face oil

P.S. The picture above is of me and my daughter at Bee City checking out the lemurs! I spent about 15 minutes on my makeup before rushing out the door, minus my foundation I might scare ya!

If you would like to try Beautycounter, email me and I would love to send you some free samples OR if you are ready to order, I will cover your shipping on your very first purchase!

Why Beautycounter (my salesy pitch)?
This is MY salesy, not so salesy pitch on why I made the switch to Beautycounter. It's the reason I made the decision to change the products I use. Bottom line, I LOVE makeup, beauty products, watching video tutorials on how to contour your face. I research products... the best to buy, what to use... I pin on pinterest. Basically I'm a slightly obsessed, overtired Mom, with a true love for beauty and skin care products.

Legit, I've been curling my lashes since I was 14 years old!

BUT... those products don't always love me. In fact, I have crazy sensitive skin. Eyelids that will swell up like crescent rolls if I use certain eyeshadows. Pores that will clog when I use some facial creams, and as I age it's gotten worse. My eyelids were so swollen this past Summer (can't show that) I had to make an emergency visit to the dermatologist for a prescription cream.
These photos above show me rocking some makeup + a recent reaction to eyeshadow, the final straw that encouraged me to take a leap of faith. One I should have considered a year ago or more.
I guess I didn't know better, and now I do. So when you know better, you do better.

I asked myself, Jess WHY are you continuing to use products that literally hurt you? Do you even know what's in those products? I looked, there is no ingredient list. NO LIST! Go into your bathroom right now and look at the products you use, even if it's only a few. Can you find any ingredients listed? Go to the companies website, but I can almost guarantee you won't find a list of any kind.

1. Do you exercise + eat well, try to live a clean lifestyle?
2. You often choose organic, local options when grocery shopping?

SO this is my question to you...
Did you know that The FDA DOES NOT investigate or approve ingredients in personal care products? Guess what, there is little to no regulation, none since 1938. A $62 BILLION industry left to regulate it's own products. I didn't know either, BUT I do NOW.

Almost ALL beauty care products include cancer causing, hormonal disrupting ingredients, organ toxicity... horribly icky yucky preservatives, colorants, perfumes and so on.

It's INSANE, the AWFUL list of harmful ingredients goes on and on, AND you are using these products EVERY SINGLE DAY. Your skin is your bodies LARGEST organ. It's essentially a sponge and absorbs everything you put on your body, almost instantly.

If you have actually read to this point, props and THANK YOU!
Let's connect, message me via Party Box Design, email me or even live chat via my little paper and printables shop.

XOXO, Jess

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Protein Balls
This Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Protein Ball recipe will literally be the best you'll ever make.
I know this, because it's tricked countless kids into thinking it's actually cookie dough!

In fact, when I snapped pics this morning I didn't intend to include Crew, he grabbed a protein ball mid photo! I will tell you there are a few key ingredients you CAN'T swap out. First, the most amazing organic coconut oil butter, it tastes like butter and is so yummy. I use it constantly and the company that produces it, is top notch. The second must have is coconut sugar, the texture and sweetness are perfection for this recipe. Last but not least, don't swap out the nut butter... you must use cashew butter to get that cookie dough flavor!

1/3 CUP OF CHOPPED NUTS(walnuts)

Simply add all the ingredients into a big bowl (minus the chocolate chips + nuts). Mix until everything is smooth and the texture of cookie dough, then add the chocolate chips and nuts. Grab a big pan, cover it with wax paper and roll the dough into balls. This recipe will make 24 protein balls. Pop the tray into your freezer, then after about 20 minutes they'll be ready to eat. You must store these in your freezer or fridge... otherwise they won't hold their form.

CHIA SEEDS- rich in omega-3 fatty acids + antioxidants and fiber.
COCONUT OIL- can improve cholesterol levels and boost brain function.
WALNUTS- Cancer-Fighting Properties + contain several unique and powerful antioxidants.

Be sure to follow us for more recipes + party fun. Oh and Nutiva, y'all should really add me to your affiliate program!

P.S. You can find all these ingredients at Whole Foods!

SLEEP? What's sleep...

I haven't slept a solid night since Saturday. SINCE SATURDAY.
My chubby cheeked, beautiful boy is refusing to nap or sleep.
I AM TIRED. T.I.R.E.D! The kind of tired that massive cups of coffee can't help, the kind of tired where even the best under eye cream can't help.

I've gotten advice from friends + family(unsuccessful) and now I am reaching out to the blogosphere.
Send help y'all, and wine... and coffee and a sleep mask! LOL

Dear sleep gods, please visit my son... he needs rest. Doesn't he know Santa is watching?!?!

Happy ALMOST weekend everyone!

Mom Hair Monday + life with a toddler

Last night I stayed up late watching Shameless, like as in 11:30 pm. Way TOO late when you have a two year old. My sweet precious adorable toddler woke me up twice in the middle of the night. Too TWO many times for a mom who was up watching Shameless.
I'm tired... I have bags under my eyes, I am almost 36 and my guilty pleasure is reality tv and Shameless. I am proudly rocking mom hair today, which my daughter said I do too often. Talk to me when you are almost 36 kiddo!

Oooo and also, I haven't showered... which I hope to do tonight when I put the kids to bed, kids that SLEEP! OOOO thank goodness for pre school and nap time AND WINE.

Happy Monday y'all. Oh as in cyber Monday!
We have lots of deals happening right now at Party Box Design.

Hi, I'm Jess... the creative lady behind Party Box Design
I just realized it's been forever since I introduced myself... and this goofball pic will have to do!
Honestly, I have so few pictures of myself, like most mom's I always fall behind the camera. Anyhoo, I love reading other bloggers top 10 random facts about themselves and thought I would post one too.
Soooo here we go!

1. My name is Jess, and I was born January 12th 1981... which means I'm and big bold Capricorn.

2. I'm originally from North Jersey, but now call Charleston, SC home! A Yankee as some might say. I left NJ when I went to college, but it hasn't left me.
Jersey girls have a special kind of magic in them, a bit of an edge.

3. I have two cute kids, an 8 year old named Charlotte and a 2 year old named Crew. YES, a huge age gap. We won't be having anymore kiddos, our house has hit the crazy limit. Charlotte also seems to have some Jersey in her, even though she was born in MD. I wonder if it's in our blood? Crew has hit the terrible two's and my goodness boys are tough.

4. I met my husband Brad when I was 22 (holy crap)! 22... I was just a baby. Now that I have my own daughter I think 22... holy moly that's young. However, I am still very much in love. Yup, we have our moments, but I'm happily married after 13.5 years.

5. I love to cook + entertain, and I am constantly pinning delicious recipes. Tonight I think I'm going to make chicken parm with whole wheat pasta, a family fave. I dream of being a skinny b*tch, but gosh I love food too dang much. Maybe one day... like in 2020?
Until then you'll find me wearing black and navy! HA!

6. I started Party Box Design way back in 2009. It was just a little dream that I made into a reality. Party Box Design was doing really really well for many years, until I got preggo with my second. Goodness I was SICK... like FOR THE ENTIRE pregnancy. I literally puked as I was pushing Crew out. TOO MUCH? Oh well! Sooo, after taking 2.5 years off I am bringing my dream back to life. I'm going to be honest and say it's pretty tough. Facebook, and Instagram and all social networks now charge you money for people to see your posts. Sooooo needless to say it's taking a tad longer then I had hoped. However, if I did it before I can certainly do it again.

7. I love wine, mostly red. I also love cocktails, but they don't love me as much as I love them. Ooo and coffee, goodness I enjoy coffee. I was on a calorie kick and was trying my best to love almond milk, but gosh half and half you are the bomb.

8. I dream of having a vacation home in Lake Lure, NC. Like, all the time. I dream about what it will look like, how I will decorate it, how much time we will spend there. It's kind of an obsession.
Lake Lure is magical and we usually go every Fall!
In fact, we have a trip coming up in October with some friends!

9. Oooo, I love nail polish. Like a lot! I have way too many colors. However, the funny thing is I go through phases where I bite my nails(awful habit). Which means, I just look at all my pretty polish until my nails grow back in(totally redic). Currently I'm obsessing over butter London yummy mummy that I got in my boxycharm box.

10. Speaking of beauty products, I am also obsessed with makeup. BUT only on the weekends, because I literally look like a hot mess Monday - Friday.5! Which means, half of Friday lol! I get two beauty boxes a month, my guilty pleasure. I mentioned boxycharm above, but I also get ipsy! I guess because I am consistently in mom gear, it feels nice to get ready on the weekends, curl my lashes and use some fun new products.

OOOOOO this is kinda long. Oh well... some little tid bits about me! Have a great day y'all and check out Party Box Design if you are looking for invitations or holiday cards, or note cards or really anything party related. Shopping small biz rocks!

xoxo- Jess

Painting Concrete
Sooooo it's August, and still HOT here in Charleston, SC so instead of actually working on projects I am dreaming about them. Our front porch is in need of some major TLC... MAJOR!
However, my budget is itty bitty... best news, I found my solution.

I've been scouring pinterest trying to find the right idea and the picture above stopped me in my pinning tracks. IT'S PERFECT. Thank you Southern Living! Even the porch ceiling is haint blue.

Once upon a time, way back when in the deep South, many folks painted their porch ceilings a specific shade of blue to ward off evil spirits called "haints.
So neat right! Plus, that color blue is dreamy.

Oooo I am so excited, a new project on the horizon + budget friendly. Happy Friday!

Printable Wine Labels
As I have entered my mid 30's I have really developed a true love for red wine.
The funny thing is, I only used to drink white... is this a sign of getting old?!? HA!

With my love for wine, I have started designing more and more wine labels for social situations.
How fun are these book club wine labels?!?!

Ooooo and for your new neighbor! Perfect for a welcome to the neighborhood gift basket.
Also, a fun bridesmaid wine label....
The best part... you can order these from Party Box Design in either a printable file for only $8.99 or we print, cut and ship the labels to you! So exciting + budget friendly.

It is WINES-DAY afterall!

Shark Party Ideas on a budget
I can't believe my baby boy is TWO. The days can be so long at times, but the last two years have literally flown by. My son Crew is a total water baby, or ahem TODDLER...
so a shark party was so fitting. This party was done on a serious budget, using mostly printables + creative shark party ideas.
The main attraction was certainly the food + drink table. I used a roll of brown paper and drew a shark fin + added some budget friendly plastic sharks from amazon as d├ęcor and cupcake toppers.

Another highlight... Ocean Water!
{Blue Hawaiian Punch + Sprite + Vanilla Ice Cream!}
So much cuter then a juice box, and the kids loved it.

I couldn't resist adding shark water bottle labels and of course some Landshark!

The dessert options were fun and affordable, blue jello cups + cupcakes + Swedish fish.
Simple and delish.
The take home favors were adorable!
Blue chocolate covered popcorn, using printable shark bag toppers. Literally print + cut + staple.

This party was just pure fun, where I didn't break the bank and style certainly wasn't compromised.
The colors and patterns are really bright and cheerful. Any busy mom out there can pull off this entire party with ease and no one will ever know!

You can find all these items at Party Box Design!
HOPING to have inspired some party loving Moms and Dads out there!

Happy first week of school y'all!
